After weeks of planning, the Windsor Public Library is ready to launch its curbside pick-up service.
Library services have been digital only since branches closed on March to stop the spread of COVID-19.
On May 20, the province announced public libraries can begin to offer curbside pickup this month.
Board Chair Rino Bortolin says staff has worked hard to ensure a program is in place so residents can safely pick-up and return items starting Monday.
"Opening up the full breadth of the collection to everybody; just drive up to the branch and there will be location outside. They'll double check your card and have it all bagged up and ready to go for you," he says.
Bortolin says staff will wear personal protective equipment and library items will go through a 72-hour quarantine followed by a cleaning when they're returned.
Everything recommended by the Windsor Essex Country Health Unit and the Ontario Library Association.
"We're following all the best protocols and because you're just literally driving up, getting out and grabbing the bag there is very little interaction and you're not coming close to the employees," adds Bortolin.
He says it won't give people access to the stacks, but having access to physical books and the trip will help give residents back some normalcy.
"I think it will be really good psychologically for people to sort of have some of those services back that they relied on over their life," he says.
A telephone number and online order form will go active Monday morning.
