A peaceful Black Lives Matter gathering is planned for this Sunday in downtown Windsor.
Co-organizer Lexie Farrer says it's another chance for the local community to support the movement and show support to loved ones in Detroit and throughout the world.
She says the gathering begins at 3:30 p.m. along the riverfront near Riverside Drive and Glengarry Avenue.
Farrer says the plan is to walk along the riverfront to the foot of Ouellette for a balloon memorial.
"Since many of us have friends and family and loved ones in Detroit, we really want to make sure that we're standing in solidarity with them even though there's a border in the way," she says.
Farrer says a Facebook page about the event has been created and she's proud of the response from the community.
"There's a lot of people who have been reaching out to me that I was surprised to hear from, and I'm really happy that this has been something that a lot of people feel they can attend and really want to show their support for," she says.
Farrer feels it's important to show support to the Black Lives Matter Movement.
"I feel so much for the people of Detroit and for the people around the world and I really feel that gathering together, it's so important to show our support," she says.
The event is expected to wrap up around 5:30 p.m.
Those attending are encouraged to wear a mask and follow COVID-19 physical distancing measures
A peaceful demonstration was held last Sunday along the riverfront to protest the death of George Floyd.
Protestors walked west along Riverside Drive to the Ambassador Bridge chanting "black lives matter," while holding up signs of support facing Detroit.
