Plans to put together a heritage committee in LaSalle have been put on hold.
The town began looking at the committee around six months ago to protect historical buildings, according to Councillor Jeff Renaud.
A report before council indicated the cost of funding the committee would be between $75,000 and $100,000.
Renaud says COVID-19 made the idea of investing that money less than appealing.
"The last count we heard was that we've lost $250,000 in revenue to COVID-19 and we don't know what that's going to look like once some of our big ticket items start rolling through the system," he says.
The committee likely won't be the last casualty of the pandemic, according to Renaud.
"We know that there are some disappointments to come down the road and some big challenges at this year's budget time," he says.
Renaud says council recognizes the heritage committee is needed, but now is not the time.
"With all the stuff going on financially right now it's just not fair to throw that at the taxpayers at what I would consider the worst of times," he says.
Renaud adds that the town will revisit the item at some point next year.
