Major League Baseball's Toronto Blue Jays are now one of several major sports teams in the Southern U.S. to shut down their facilities due to COVID-19.
A pitcher exhibiting symptoms at their Dunedin, Fla. Spring Training facility prompted the closure. He had recently spent time with players in the Philadelphia Phillies' minor league system and has been tested for the virus, according to team officials.
The Jays' ball park is just minutes from the Clearwater, Fla. facility that hosts the Phillies where eight players tested positive for the virus this week.
Three players and two staff members from the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning tested positive for COVID-19 Friday as well.
The team has closed their training facilities in response and General Manager Julien Brisebois announced everyone is self-isolating and is asymptomatic other than a few experiencing low-grade fevers.
Anyone who may have been in contact with the individuals has been notified, according to Brisebois.
