The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reporting 15 additional cases of COVID-19 in the region, for a total of 1,815.
Of the new cases, 10 are workers in the agri-farm sector, three are community and two are under investigation.
During his daily briefing, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed touched on the province's plans to introduce details on stage three.
He did not say specify whether or not he thinks Windsor-Essex is ready for stage three but did say he believes more data is needed.
"It is critical that we continue to follow the data since the reopening and feel more comfortable that despite all these additional places, workplaces that are open right now, we have the virus fairly contained in the community," says Dr. Ahmed. The initial evidence points to that fact but I think we still need to look at some of the data for a longer period of time."
He says ultimately the province will make the final decision when the region will enter Stage 3 but feels a consistent trend of decline is needed in community cases.
"Locally some of the key messages I think we still need to follow, we're still seeing, getting some complaints about these work places, restaurants, bars and patios,” he says. “I think we really need to get a good handle on that and we cannot do it unless we have the support from our residents.”
Dr. Ahmed says he has not provided his recommendation to the Premier's Office as it relates to stage 3.
"That question was not posed to me about Windsor-Essex if it's ready or if I'm making a recommendation or support the province's decision, so that conversation hasn't yet," says Dr. Ahmed. "It will happen in the future, I'm sure."
There are outbreaks at six workplaces all in Kingsville and Leamington, five in the agriculture sector and one in the manufacturing sector.
As heard on AM800's The Morning Drive on Monday, Windsor Regional Hospital President and CEO David Musyj, has concerns about the region moving into Stage 3.
