The President and CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital has some concerns about moving into Stage 3 of the province's reopening framework.
Details on Stage 3 are expected to be announced Monday afternoon but it remains to be seen whether there will be a regional approach to the stage, like there was for Stage 2.
Speaking on AM800's The Morning Drive, David Musyj says as we've seen worldwide, when more businesses open and larger groups of people can gather it can create problems as it relates to the spread of COVID-19.
"You have to do it carefully,” he says. “You have to be ready to dial down when you do it and not be fearful that if it goes too far and we start seeing a spike in cases that we have to peel it back a bit."
Musyj says there is one benefit Ontario has moving forward.
"Because we're a little bit behind some other jurisdictions with respect to moving into Stage 3, we'll learn from others about what is working and what is not working."
Since being in Stage 2, Musyj thinks things seem to be going pretty well but hopes the province recognizes that if a jurisdiction needs to scale back, that call is made.
"We have to be ready for it and other jurisdictions have had the confidence I guess you could call it, in order to do that. To say 'we went to far' or 'we went too far, too fast' or 'some of the restrictions we put in place are not being followed and we're having trouble making people follow them, therefore we have to step back.' "
According to a document released in late April, Stage 3 includes allowing remaining workplaces to reopen safely and further relaxing restrictions on public gatherings.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reporting 15 additional cases of COVID-19 in the region, for a total of 1,815
