A memorial for the late Charlie Kirk will be held in Windsor.
The controversial right-wing political activist was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10th at the age of 31.
The vigil will be held Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at Dieppe Gardens and will feature speakers and singers.
It's being held the same day as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation but organizers say it has to be held that day to coincide with a Charlie Kirk memorial happening at Hart Plaza in Detroit.
A similar vigil in Chatham-Kent attracted about 500 people.
Spokesperson Elliott Bowen says all are welcome to attend.
"We believe that Charlie Kirk had some good values, obviously not everyone is going to agree with what he had to say but what he did well was debate in a civil manner and he wanted to have open conversations," says Bowen. "We want to honour his life and we're planning a vigil at Dieppe Gardens by the flag."
Bowen says anyone wanting more information can visit the "Turning Point Windsor" Facebook page or the "Freedom Alliance Canada" Facebook page where the Windsor-Essex chapter has 30,000 members.
A key ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, Kirk espoused a variety of conservative and Trumpist stances, including opposition to abortion, gun control, DEI programs, and LGBTQ rights.
