Lakeside Market is on the move.
The weekly market, which launched this summer at the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre in Lakeshore, is relocating to the renovated lower level of the former St. Joachim Catholic Church, now known as 927 St. Joachim L’Association.
The grand opening at the new location is set for Saturday and will feature local vendors, live music and an opportunity for visitors to see the restoration work underway at the historic building.
Organizer Sandra Pearce says the move gives the market something it didn’t have before.
“Atlas was great for outside market, but we’re excited that regardless of whether the weather is good or bad, we have a roof over our heads,” she said.
“On nice days we’ll be outside enjoying the outside of that property, but most Saturdays from now until the end of the year, we will be inside in the renovated basement.”
Pearce says organizers are hoping the market can eventually operate for much of the year.
“We would love to go year round. The question will be a little pause perhaps in January, February and March just because a lot of produce and that sort of thing isn’t available outside of greenhouses. But our hope really is to at least be going 75 per cent of the year, ” Pearce said.
She says support from vendors has been strong since the market launched in June.
“We have had an incredible core group of vendors who stuck with us through the Atlas Tube time and are planning to join us as we move to St. Joachim,” she said.
Lakeside Market’s grand opening runs Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2722 County Road 42.
