The Windsor Essex Bike Community (WEBC) will appear before Amherstburg council Monday evening seeking permission to expand the bike trail at the Libro Centre.
The group is looking to build a safe and free practice area for riders of all ages and skill levels.
Deputy mayor Chris Gibb said WEBC's proposal includes beginner, intermediate, and advanced features.
"Sort of a smaller trail that inexperienced or younger riders can learn the skills of mountain biking and then they'll be able to fully utilize the trails when they get those skills in their back pocket," he said.
A total of 8 kilometres of trail were previously constructed over three phases that began back in June 2023. Phase three opened last summer.
Administration recommends placing the proposed skills park near the dog park area for safety, trail continuity, and easier long-term maintenance.
Gibb agreed and said it's a great location.
"It's close to the trail network, so if you're on the trails you can quickly make it over to the new skills park or vice versa. Once you hone those skills you can quickly jump on the Libro trails so it makes sense. We've got a lot of property out there and this is just a fantastic spot for it," said Gibb.
He said the bike trails continue to be well used and added that North Star High School even established a mountain biking team.
"There's people coming from all over. From Michigan, from southwestern Ontario, we're just seeing so much usage and it's an amenity that with the credit to WEBC, they built with no cost to taxpayers," he said.
If approved, WEBC would again fundraise and cover all costs for the project.
Construction and opening is anticipated for summer 2026.
