A mayoral candidate in Amherstburg is no longer eligible to run in the municipal election this October.

Frank Cerasa’s nomination for mayor has been rejected, according to the town’s clerk, Kevin Fox.

The clerk says Cerasa did not have the required 25 eligible endorsements needed to file.

Cerasa had previously told AM800 News that his campaign was suspended after the town informed him his endorsement list only contained 24 valid signatures.

These endorsements are required to be provided to the clerk’s office no later than 2 p.m. on August 21, 2026.

The town’s clerk says a review of Cerasa’s Endorsement Form found the same person had signed it twice.

The clerk says the decision to reject Cerasa’s nomination is final under the Municipal Elections Act.

The certified list of candidates includes Michael Prue, Chris Gibb and Bill Fryer in the race for mayor.
