The province's police watchdog has confirmed two police officers fired their guns in an incident that killed a 33-year-old man in downtown Windsor.
Wednesday at 8am, there was a confrontation between police and the man, identified as Matthew Mahoney by the man's brother on Facebook.
The SIU says 'the man was struck multiple times' in the Dufferin Ave. alley behind the Mcdonalds and died.
According to witnesses, the victim was carrying a butcher block with knives.
Police asked him to stop but he attacked the officers instead.
Police tasered the man, but it didn't stop him and then shots were fired.
