Public concerns on a proposed expansion for the Kingsbridge Subdivision have been heard and a compromise has been reached at Amherstburg Town Council.
A public meeting on the proposal to develop land located to the east and south of Hilton Crt. and Whelan Ave. was held on July 23. At that meeting and, through the town's website, several issues were brought forward in regards to the environment, drainage capacity, lack of sidewalks, traffic, and the width of the streets.
The developer came to council Thursday with an amended plan that will address those issues, with the town stepping in to work on the traffic issue.
Councillor Rick Fryer says the zoning approval is a great example of everyone working together for the best possible result.
"This meeting shows that the developer and council working together heard the residents and the concerns were met," says Fryer.
He says the town could address traffic issues with new signage, speed bumps, and prohibiting parking on both sides of the street to assure the roadway is accessible.
"Mitigating measures, that will come back to council, council has the ability to give direction to administration will follow through with the direction of council," he says.
The expansion to 182 total lots was also cleared of any possible environmental issues by the Essex Regional Conservation Authority, according to the report.
