New young donor allows annual Mission thanksgiving turkey giveaway to continue
A Thanksgiving tradition at Windsor's Downtown Mission continues this year thanks to a gift from a donor.
Windsor businessman Sam Sinjari has bought over 200 turkeys to be handed out just ahead of Thanksgiving at the Mission's Wellness Centre on Ouellette Ave.
Mission Executive Director Ron Dunn says it's remarkably generous
"He's a young man," says Dunn. "We always talk about how donors are older, this gentleman is under 30-years-old and he bought and paid for some 200 turkeys and we're really excited to be able to give people a nice Thanksgiving."
"Mark" lives on an Ontario Disability Pension and says he couldn't afford this otherwise.
"They give you just enough to pay your rent but they don't give you enough to get a regular turkey dinner and most of the stuff when you're on ODSP," says Mark. "You go to get a turkey and you just can't afford it"
The lineup of people ahead of the giveaway went around the Mission building out onto the Ouellette Ave. sidewalk.
