A 7-year-old girl is dead following a tragic crash in Chatham-Kent.
Police were called to Jacob Road near Given Line around 9 p.m. on Monday for a single vehicle crash.
Police say the driver, a 34-year old Chatham man, was travelling with his girlfriend's three children when he lost control and rolled upside down in water-filled ditch.
The man was able to save two of the three kids while volunteer firefighters removed the third child.
A four-year old girl was air-lifted to hospital in London, an 11-year old boy was rushed to a London hospital via ground ambulance and despite life-saving efforts, a 7-year-old girl was pronounced dead in Chatham.
According to police, officers at the scene detected the driver was impaired — he was arrested and taken to police headquarters for a breath test.
The man has been charged with impaired driving causing death, criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and two counts of driving while under suspension.
He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
