Windsor Regional Hospital is hopeful that their Code Grey status will be lifted early next week, more than three months since it was put into place.
The Code Grey was put in place following the cyberattack in October 2023, which saw majority of services at the hospital impacted.
The cyberattack on October 23 also impacted services at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, Erie Shores Healthcare in Leamington, Bluewater Health in Sarnia, and Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.
During Thursday's Board of Directors meeting, an update was provided on where restoration efforts are currently, with only two services still impacted.
The hospital's automated medicine dispensing cabinet system, and the cardiovascular information system are expected to be back online within the next few days. If all goes according to plan, the Code Grey will be lifted effective Tuesday, February 6.
The system used for diagnostic imaging for CT's and MRI's came fully back online in January, and the system used to electronically enter current patient's information, treatment plans, and orders came back online in mid-December.
David Musyj, President and CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital, says if all goes well with the last two systems, the Code Grey will be rescinded.
"Those were kind of the two last larger clinical systems that we were waiting to get up 100 per cent before we would state that the Code Grey would be rescinded. That's our major clinical systems are up and pretty much over the last month things have been running back to quote 'normal'."
He says moving forward they will focus on reducing their backlog for diagnostic imaging for CT's and MRI's.
"Getting our diagnostic imaging exams reduced, but we've been able even during the height of the cyberattack, to do what's classified as P1's and P2's, which is our emergent/urgent classified cases of diagnostic imaging."
He says through a patient's eye everything is back to pre-cyberattack operations.
"From a digital point of view, it's quote 'back to normal'. We have some of the smaller systems that need to come up, and also some of our non-clinical systems still need to come up. But overall for the last month we've had a lot of stability."
Musyj says the attack is still under investigation by INTERPOL and the F.B.I.
While many of the systems are back online, he says services won't be back to 100 per cent until the end of 2024.
The other hospitals affected can rescind the Code Grey as they see fit, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance rescinded their status in December, while Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare have stated they are anticipating for the Code Grey to be in place for several more months.
