The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is asking customers of a local Halloween store to monitor their symptoms.
According to the release sent out Saturday, the health unit confirmed an employee working at the Spirit Halloween Store in Devonshire Mall at 3100 Howard Ave. has tested positive for COVID-19.
The staff member worked at the store on Aug. 25 and management is working with public health inspectors to complete a site assessment. All precautions were taken by the business and the staff member in question was wearing a face covering while working, according to the health unit.
"While the risk of exposure is low, the WECHU is notifying the public because there is a potential risk of COVID-19 exposure to the customers who visited this store on the specified date."
Anyone who visited the store on Aug. 25 is asked to take the online COVID-19 Self-Assessment and monitor their symptoms for the next 14 days. If symptoms do develop, the health unit asks they contact their primary health care provider or go to a local assessment centre.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed says the health unit will continue to alert the public in cases where it's possible they were unknowingly exposed to COVID-19.
