Work is underway at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel.
It started on Wednesday on the Canadian side of the plaza when exiting the tunnel.
Windsor-Detroit Tunnel Corporation Chief Executive Officer Tal Czudner says some asphalt is being removed and is being replaced with concrete.
He doesn’t expect much delays but says there will be some lane adjustments.
“We’ll be using the south building,” says Czudner. “Our friends at CBSA will open up that south building for NEXUS and commercial, and then we’ll still have lanes on the far right, seven, eight, and nine that would be open. So you’re either going to make a quick 180 when you come out of the tunnel or you’re going to be able to drive straight through.”
He’s asking drivers to be patient.
“It shouldn’t take any longer,” he says. It may just take a couple extra seconds when people determine where to go, but like anything, have your ID ready; if you’re going to declare something, declare something."
Czudner says the work should be completed some time next week.
“It should take eight or nine days depending on weather, but all it does is it means there’s a little bit of construction that you need to be cognisant of, but CBSA will have lots of lanes open, and we’ll have our staff directing traffic accordingly,” says Czudner.
