Kingsville is one step closer to a new recreational facility on the site of the former Kings Landing restaurant.
The town is spending just under $80,000 on an architect to design a plan to demolish the current building and construct a new one.
Mayor Nelson Santos says the town is working on a tight timeline as the $181,000 in government funding received for the project must be used by the end next summer.
Santos says construction should begin by late this summer.
"That'll all come through with the updated reports that we'll be receiving shortly and then we'll be able to put the pedal to the metal so that we can see some progress," says Santos. "We've done a design. We've done community surveys, we've had public meetings and we found that there's a significant support for a facility."

Santos says the facility will be a nice addition.
"The types of innovation and design that we want to see and the technology that will be in the new facility along with the opportunities for multi uses, whether it's special events, whether it's for arts, it's a place that will draw our community closer to the waterfront," says Santos.
The town has set aside $640,000 for the project. Santos says Glos Associates has been hired on to head up the project.
Kingsville bought the Kings Landing property in 2013 for $575,000.
