A proposed plan for reconstruction of University Avenue should be ready for the public to review this spring.
A final stakeholder meeting has been held with the consultant guiding the project.
The Environmental Assessment covers the entire section from Huron Church Road to McDougall Street.
A number of options had already been presented to the public for review, including bike lanes.
Manager of Transportation Planning, Josette Eugeni, says they wanted to hear from police, public works, businesses and others who have a stake in the changes.
She says the public will have a chance in the spring to comment on the plan.
"There'll be a second public meeting where everything has been compiled and a preferred alternative will be illustrated and gaining feedback from the community once again before doing a final study"
Eugeni says there's a possibility some work could begin in late 2019, but more likely the following year.
"We'll have a better idea, I guess, of that once we see what the preferred alternatives are because that will come with some preliminary cost estimates as well. So maybe some things we can do as quick wins to get the environment changing in the right direction"
Stakeholder Amy Allen is a bicycle instructor who likes one configuration of the bike lanes, but with a modification.
"A decision to move the buffer to be placed between the parked cars and the bicycle lane itself "
The E.A. breaks up University Avenue into 5 different zones and each will be configured somewhat differently.
The overall plan is to reduce the travel lane to a single lane each way with more parking.
The E.A. also includes a small section of Victoria Avenue where it crosses University.
