It's going to be a hot one for this year's Woofa-Roo Pet Festival in Amherstburg.
It's expected to be the hottest weekend so far this summer with highs in the 40's with the humidex.
Festival director Lorene Clayton says all the regular events like dock diving and dog agility are returning — plus there's some new additions like dog dancing and dog parkour.
She says they've taken a number of measures to combat the extreme heat.
"Only half of the event is outdoors. The other half is indoors under environmentally controlled conditions. So we have a 'chill zone' indoors, very cool, you can sit back and cool down if you find it a little too hot outside."
Clayton says there will be plenty of options to stay hydrated.
"We have many, many hydration stations which is great for the dogs and fun to watch. These are little pools set up for the dogs to stay cool in. Misting tents, we have lots of water, a lot of shade."
She says the event usually draws about 10,000 people and she's hoping the heat doesn't scare anyone away.
"We have facilities where you can get out of the heat. Areas where people can just sit and socialize with other animal lovers and animal owners. I believe that we have a strong enough interest and a following that people will come."
Clayton says there will be dozens of vendors and contests at the event as well.
The 7th annual Woofa-Roo Pet Fest goes 9:30am to 5:30pm both Saturday and Sunday at the Libro Sports Complex in Amherstburg.
