A snowfall warning continues for Windsor-Essex and there's very little relief in sight according to Environment Canada's Jeff Coulson.
The meteorologist spoke to AM800's Patty Handysides on The Afternoon News about what to expect over the weekend.
Close to 12cm of snow have already been recorded at Windsor International Airport as of 3pm Friday. Coulson says there's still 15cm to 20cm on the way for Windsor-Essex.
"We're looking at the radar, we're looking at reports all the way back to Chicago and northern Illinois still showing a fair amount of snow falling in those areas," he says. "Another number of hours of snow still yet to come, likely tapering off by around 9pm or 10pm this evening."
Coulson says there will be a brief pause overnight Friday, more snow is on the way Saturday morning and even more accumulation is expected Sunday.
"The second shot comes through, this one's going to be lighter and maybe 2cm to 4cm during the day on Saturday and then eventually that will taper off Saturday evening," says Coulson. "A final system on Sunday coming up from Texas looks like general snowfall accumulations of an additional 5cm to 10cm."
Milder temperatures will come into the region early in the week — but with all the snow dropped over the weekend — Coulson says that will make a pending storm system even worse for area roads.
"Right now it looks like a messy storm-system could get itself together, this could be potentially late Wednesday into the day on Thursday," he says. "With those temperatures flirting with the freezing mark we may see a bit of snow, a bit of freezing rain, we could even see a bit of plain old rain with this system."
Couslon says anyone travelling should expect poor road conditions and reduced visiablity in areas stretching from Toronto down into Ohio throughout the weekend.
