Despite a comeback bid in the third period, the Wings came up short against the Boston Bruins, losing 4-2.
Ryan Fitzgerald, Danton Heinen, and Austin Czarnik scored the second-period goals for the Bruins. Anthony Mantha would get the Wings on the board with just seconds remaining as he tucked home a chance from close range after a nice pass from Brian Lashoff.
In the third period, Dylan Larkin would get the Wings within one with a goal just three minutes into the final period.
A Teddy Purcell goal with less than three minutes remaining in the game would all but cancel out any hopes the Red Wings had of tying the games as it finished 4-2.
The Bruins outshot the Wings 34 to 22.
The Wings return to action tonight as they head to Pittsburgh to face the defending Stanley Cup champions at 7:00 p.m.
