Artemi Panarin scored in overtime to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 3-2, NHL season-opening win over the Red Wings in Detroit.
Cam Atkinson scored in the first and Josh Anderson in the second for Columbus, which blew a pair of one-goal leads before pulling out the win on Thursday night.
Joonas Korpisalo made 18 saves for the Jackets.
Dennis Cholowski and Tyler Bertuzzi scored in the second for Detroit.
Jimmy Howard gave up three goals on 39 shots in the setback.
Detroit opens a two-game road trip in California against the Kings on Sunday and then plays the Ducks Monday in Anaheim.
