Anthony Mantha snapped a 2-all tie with a power-play goal late in the second period and the Detroit Red Wings went on to beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-2.
Darren Helm, Tyler Bertuzzi and Luke Glendening also scored for Detroit, which got 33 saves from Jonathan Bernier.
The Wings have won three-of-four to start the season.
Joel Armia and Max Domi had goals for Montreal, while Carey Price gave up three goals on 33 shots as the Habs slipped to 1-1-and-2.
In other NHL action on Thursday, Nikita Kucherov tallied two goals and two assists as the Lightning torched the Maple Leafs 7-3 in Toronto.
Andreas Johnsson, John Tavares and Auston Matthews scored first-period goals for the Leafs, who fell to 2-2-and-1 with their third straight loss.
The Red Wings will host the Leafs at Little Caesars Arena Saturday night.
