The Red Wings have traded defenceman Brendan Smith to the Rangers for two draft picks.
Detroit gets New York's second-round pick in 2018 and a third-round pick this year (2017).
The 28-year-old blueliner has two goals and five points in 33 games with the Wings this season.
Smith is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
