Jimmy Howards steady performance leads Detroit past L.A.

Three different Red Wings scored to back 42 saves from Jimmy Howard in a 3-1 win over the Kings in Detroit.

Dennis Cholowski scored in the first, and Frans Nielsen and Dylan Larkin scored in the second to stake Detroit to a 3-0 lead.  

Anze Kopitar broke up the shutout for Los Angeles with less than seven minutes left in the game.

Jonathan Quick allowed three goals on 21 shots for the Kings, who have lost five of their last seven games.  Both teams went 0-for-1 on the power play.

The Wings skate against the Capitals in Washington D.C. Tuesday night in NHL action.
