Windsor-Essex residents by the hundreds have stepped up to help a local infant with a potentially-fatal genetic disorder.
675 people have been swabbed since Thursday in an effort to find a bone-marrow stem-cell match for 5-month-old Madalayna Ducharme.
She's been diagnosed with malignant infantile osteopetrosis.
President of the Katelyn Bedard Bone Marrow Association, Jackie Leardi, is hopeful that a match will be found, soon. "Madalayna is suffering from a genetic disorder that affects her bones and so time is of the essence for her. She really needs a transplant as soon as possible to prevent any further damage that this condition is having on her body."
Only people ages 17 to 35 can register.
Another swabbing clinic is being arranged for a week from today at the University of Windsor.
