Ontarians only getting six days to make comment about stripping outsofcountry OHIP
The M.P.P. for Windsor West is calling on people to speak out quickly to oppose a change in OHIP coverage.
The province announced via a web posting yesterday that out-of-country coverage will be ended.
New Democrat Lisa Gretzky says it looks like the Ford government tried to slip this one into place without the public knowing.
She says it may not mean much in some places, but in Windsor-Essex it's a big deal.
"When you look at border towns like ours, it is a major change to public health care here in Ontario. We have so many people that cross the border to go to sporting events, to go across the border to have dinner, do short day trips"
Gretzky says the PC government is giving people little opportunity to respond to the plan.
"They did it giving people six days notice, to send in their thoughts to contact the government. They're not having, to my knowledge they have not announced public consultations where they travel to communities to hear what people have to say they're not welcoming people to a committee at Queens Park to give feedback"
She says specific groups will be harmed the most.
"We have a great deal of seniors, Snowbirds, that are going to be affected by this. We have people who have to travel for work across the border. We have people here in Windsor that, nurses have no choice but to work across the border if they want to work in their field and it's going to affect them as well"
Gretzky is urging people to reach out to PC MPP's with letters or find any way they can to speak to the Ford government about their thoughts on this.
