It was a warm welcome at Windsor City Hall for students from Fujisawa, Japan.
As part of an exchange program, 27 students from Windsor's twin city will spend two weeks here learning English and visiting local landmarks such as Willistead Manor, Point Pelee National Park and Adventure Bay.
"This year is 32 years since we signed the agreement being sister cities and during that time, we have had so many positive relationships and interactions between the two cities," says Mayor Drew Dilkens, welcoming the students to City Hall on Monday.
He says this exchange program has been going on for more than a decade.
"It is something I know their school certainly enjoys doing this for 11 years in a row and it is something that we enjoy every single year and it is a sign of the strength of the relationship we have in Fujisawa," says Dilkens.
He says it's a great learning opportunity for the students.
"It is really designed to give the girls a chance to experience Canadian culture, learn a little bit of English, and see what it is like to be Canadian for a couple of weeks."
Windsor has 12 sister city agreements including the one with Fujisawa which dates back 32 years.
