The Windsor Spitfires and the rest of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) are releasing the schedules for the 2019/20 season.
It was announced on Monday that the Spits will open the new season at home on September 21st against Peterborough — followed by Erie coming to town on the 26th and Windsor hitting the road to Hamilton on the 27th.
Spit's spokesperson, Dave Ducharme says it's an exciting time of year, especially now since we know ownership is staying local.
"And the prospect of having 18 returning players that are eligible and some great young talent coming up, by the time we get the schedule out it's still a far ways away, the season, but it's always nice to get it out and make the games tangible that we can look ahead to."
He says there will be some changes to the schedule this year that will hopefully make some fans happy.
"We've now got eight Saturday games and seven Sunday afternoon games, so nearly half of our schedule is weekend games. What we wanted to do was make it a little more accessible for families because what we're hearing is that our traditional Thursday nights, it's hard for a lot of families to get out,” Ducharme adds, at the tail end of the season when the games are important, there are 11 home games in a six week stretch.
"The likes of the London Knights, Soo Greyhounds, Kitchener Rangers and Saginaw Spirit coming in so, when the games are most meaningful, we've got a lot of home games back-ending the schedule against a lot of great Western Conference opponents that we think our fans will enjoy."
The Spits will finish the regular season on the road, March 22nd in Sault Ste Marie.
