A new $6.5-million fire hall and Emergency Operation Centre in Windsor is nearly ready to go.
Construction is complete on the 13,000 square foot space on Provincial Rd. just east of the 6th Concession and it's now being fitted out by Windsor Fire and Rescue.
Deputy Fire Chief Andrea deJong says the final details are coming together. "We're just doing the final setup with the Emergency Operations Centre in there with all the technical equipment that's going in. We're starting to move furniture in for set up and for the crews to start operating out of there."
"The new facility will be a major improvement during emergencies," says deJong. "Certainly with the brand new Emergency Operations Centre, it's much more technically advanced and and there's a lot more room in it. It's built for its function, which is nice because we've been making a room function as the Emergency Operations Centre instead of having it function as it was built and designed as."
There is no date set for the official opening, but officials expect it will be in mid-August.
The new fire hall is replacing the existing one on Airport Rd.
