The mayor of Windsor is speaking out about construction delays at the Windsor-Detroit tunnel.
"We want this project completed," says Mayor Drew Dilkens. "We want it done well. We want to make sure that it's safe for the next 100 years but certainly the length of time and the lack of communication that we've been getting from the U-S side has actually caused us concern."
Mayor Drew Dilkens chair's the Canadian side of the tunnel board and says work on the tunnel was suppose to be done by the end of June but now has been pushed back to the fall.
"There had been some challenges that had been expressed to us with respect to once they took the ceiling off, what they found underneath," says Dilkens. "So they're making the necessary repairs. We don't actually have a final date yet. I can tell you it's been very very frustrating."

He says concerns have been expressed to the tunnel's U-S board.
"Our concern really has been about the lack of communication from the U-S side," says Dilkens. "We're partners in a very important, strategic asset and we certainly haven't felt that we've been partners in this particular project and it's a project that's over 20 million dollars. We would have expected more."
The tunnel has been closing nightly from 8pm until 5:30am from Sunday to Thursday as part of the 20-million dollar project.
Work on the ceiling began last October.
