Windsor's Jake Lumley has been selected in the Major League Baseball draft.
The Holy Names graduate and standout at Canisius College in Buffalo was taken by the Oakland Athletics in the 33rd round.
"There's a lot of emotions going on. Pretty excited -- all my family and friends came over and surprised me," says Lumley. "I'm pretty excited. I've been working towards this for a while. To see my name called is pretty exciting."
The 2016 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player of the year and all-MAAC first-team selection closed out his senior year with the Golden Griffins batting .355 with a conference-best 81 hits, 12 doubles, three triples and 21 RBIs.
Lumley says getting drafted into the big leagues is a dream come true.
"I've been playing baseball since I was four or five years old," says Lumley. "I went to school on a baseball scholarship and I've been working hard for four years there for this. It's definitely a dream come true and very rewarding."
Lumley finished his collegiate career as the program's all-time leader in hits with 259.
He says the team is flying him to Arizona in a few days for a physical and then he'll be assigned to a minor league team to begin playing.
