Windsor's original high school will soon have a monument to mark where it stood.
Patterson Collegiate stood on the corner of Goyeau St. and Elliot where there's now a grocery store and parking lot.
A new memorial of the school is under construction and has been dedicated in a ceremony.
The completion is expected in mid-July when a time capsule will be included.
Phil Jacob graduated in 1949 — the 88-year-old remembers winning the the T. Eaton Trophy for Ontario basketball champions the previous year.
"We drove down to Toronto the whole team, 12 guys in two cars and three basketballs. And while we were away they couldn't play basketball because we had 'em."
Alumni Association President Dan Marcuz recalls the time Eddie Dawson participated in the 1936 Olympics for Canada in Basketball.
"He persuaded Jesse Owens to come to Windsor and do some coaching for the track team in Windsor. Like I said, we've got long tentacles, Eddie Dawson, Al Newman, Bill Rogan, all in multiple halls of fame."

Rose Baretzky has her name on the WSSAA trophy three times, the first while playing for Patterson.
"I was fortunate in playing on the Patterson Collegiate team. I won the championship as a player. Then when I went to Assumption, we were fortunate in winning the championship there, so the trophy's moved along and then my last year of teaching at Holy Names we won the championship there."

The original school was built and opened in 1888, with the newer Patterson being built in 1930.
Norm Becker Engineering is donating materials and labour toward the $20,000 monument.
