Another labour endorsement has been announced for mayoral candidate Matt Marchand.
The Windsor and District Labour Council has put its name behind Marchand for the upcoming municipal election Thursday — the move comes on the heels of Unifor Local 444's decision to recommend the former chair of the Windsor-Essex Chamber of Commerce.
President Brian Hogan tells AM800 News the labour council likes Marchand's vision, something the council feels incumbent Mayor Drew Dilkens lacks.
"It aligns with a lot of the issues that we think need improving for impoverished people, housing, real ideas around mental health and drug addiction. We had grave concerns with Drew [Dilkens] and Matt [Marchand] has lots of great ideas," he says.
Hogan says Marchand is vocal on automotive and trade issues that Dilkens failed to address.
"Drew hasn't even brought his council together and think about some of the things that he just rammed through to get his motions through," says Hogan. "Auto-strategy Matts there, silence from Drew. Working with labour, MP's, MPP's, Matts there and Drew's not. We just need, as Matts Pointing out, much more transparency for all of us, and much more accountability."
Frank Dyck, Tom Hensel, and Ernie Lamont are also running for the mayor's chair in Windsor.
The municipal vote is set for Oct. 22.
