Windsor's 2019 budget is being delayed.
During a city council orientation session on Friday, Mayor Drew Dilkens says there may be some provincial changes coming down the pipeline which may affect city operations.
The budget had originally been scheduled to be presented and deliberated in January, but Dilkens says given the 'unknowns' from the province, the budget will be delayed.
"We understand there may be some changes coming down from the provincial government that will affect municipalities and we thought it prudent to understand what those changes would be and what the cost implications may be before we bring a budget to city council for approval."
He says the budget may be delayed as much as a few months.
"We have done budgets in the past all the way into April and May, I think May is the last time we can actually set the policy with respect to tax rates so it is unusual to set it that long in the year, but certainly January, February or March would not be unusual."
Dilkens says the more experience the newly elected councillors have under their belts, the better they can understand the budget process.
The 2018 budget included a 0.9% property tax increase.
