The owner of Mezzo Restaurante on Erie Street in Windsor is overjoyed to be able to open his doors soon.
"We are happy to be in phase two, we are happy to open our doors, he are happy to serve our customers," says Fil Rocca after receiving the news.
Rocca says he can't wait to have customers back with his extended patio beginning this Friday.
It comes as the province announced on Wednesday that Windsor will be allowed to move to Stage 2.
Although phase 2 will allow his restaurant to open, Rocca will only be able to serve about half his normal capacity, but he says he's not complaining.
He expects the patio will be a busy place this summer.
"I'm hoping with my expanded patio due to the size of the restaurant, I should have 80 to 100 seats outside."
He says going out for dinner will be an adjustment for everyone.
"We are just ready, we have masks ready for staff, we have partition walls built to keep people distancing for interior dining, we have umbrellas to keep the sun away, we have hand sanitizer for the tables," adds Rocca.
He admits he feels bad for his colleagues in Leamington and Kingsville, and hopes the agri-food worker situation gets the necessary help to be able to move that region to Stage 2 as well.
Meanwhile, The Mayor of Leamington says she is extremely disappointed after hearing her municipality as well as Kingsville will remain in stage one while the rest of Windsor-Essex .
