The mayor of Windsor is encouraging people to take part in 'Takeout Tuesday.'
It involves people ordering food, for takeout or delivery, from their favourite restaurant on Tuesday, March 24.
It's being promoted as a way to support small businesses that have been forced to close their dining rooms during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We're not trying to force this on anyone," says Mayor Dilkens. "It's just a suggestion to help the small businesses, those small service businesses, our favourite restaurant to help them continue to operate and survive during this time."
Dilkens is asking people who have the financial capacity to help out, to do so.
If people are in self-isolation, Dilkens says people should not leave to pick up their takeout, but delivery is certainly an option.
As part of a state of emergency announced March 17, the province issued an order that all bars and restaurants must close, except to provide takeout food and delivery.
CEO Gordon Orr says a lot of businesses offer takeout and delivery, but have never really promoted it.
"There's been sort of a reincarnation because of this global pandemic with some of our restaurants and bars that offer takeout service and some of our wineries and craft breweries," says Orr.
