Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) is reporting its 23rd COVID-19 related death.
According to a statement from the hospital, a patient who tested positive for the virus died in the ICU Friday.
Out of 105 confirmed COVID-19 patients, 23 deaths works out to a 22 per cent death rate among hospitalized patients, according to WRH.
The hospital says it's a, "stark reminder of the need to remain vigilant in reducing the opportunity for transmission."
Eighty-five patients who tested positive for COVID-19 from the Met or Ouellette campuses have been safely discharged from hospital along with the 35 who are safely back home at Heron Terrace.
With the death of the ICU patient Friday there are now no active cases of COVID-19 at the Met or Ouellette campuses, but WRH says there are still 54 patients in hospital that are suspected of having the virus and are awaiting test results.
According to the statement, the hospital continues to take the threat of the virus very seriously and remains committed to screening visitors and patients entering its facilities.
