Windsor is getting $3-million from the province to help with infrastructure upgrades on Huron Church Rd.
Ontario Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney notified the city via a letter received on July 22nd that the project qualifies for funding under the 2019-20 Connecting Links Program.
Designs can now begin on the road work on Huron Church from Malden Rd. to just south of Thunder Rd. Harley Davidson.
"We will go into the design phase now and probably construction we are looking at again next summer like we did this past spring, and it will be the next phase of that project," says Executive Director of Operations Dwayne Dawson.
He says the funding is a huge help.
"Those are huge dollar projects," he says. "Realistically, we probably couldn't do those projects in this kind of timeframe without those funds."
Dawson says it shouldn't take as long as the roadwork this past spring on Huron Church.
"This job is a little easier than the last one in the fact that there is no intersections involved, so there will be no traffic signals which added to some time at the end of the project trying to get all the traffic signals and that infrastructure in place, this one is just a straight road reconstruction and that's it."
A three month long construction project on Huron Church Rd. between Malden Rd. and Dorchester Rd. took place this past spring, which included repaving and infrastructure upgrades.
