Windsor police are reminding shoppers not to make it easier for thieves to steal.
As part of the province-wide "Lock it or Lose it" Campaign, officers were out at the east end Canadian Tire handing out pamphlets to shoppers as they entered the store.
They wanted to remind people to make sure their vehicles are locked.
Constable Andrew Drouillard randomly checked a couple dozen vehicles in the parking lot Wednesday morning and found one was left unlocked.
"It is an opportunistic type of theft and it just takes that one person on the street that they get rewarded and keeps them going," says Drouillard.
"A lot of people don't report these incidents and we encourage even minor incidents just as this to report them to police so we can track them."
It is also important for people who spot someone suspicious in parking lots looking in car windows to give police a call.
Police are also encouraging people not to keep anything valuable in their vehicle.
