Windsor police officers patrolling the town of Amherstburg have been kept busy.
Windsor took over policing in the town on January 1 and since then, there have been 327 calls for service, which averages about 15 calls per day.
Deputy Police Chief Brad Hill says says improved policing in town is already paying off.
"We have had some enhancements where there was a break and enter to a pharmacy and a robbery at a pharmacy in the town of Amherstburg and as a result of our services, the Windsor police service and our specialized units, we were able to obtain evidence from that robbery which was analyzed by our target based unit here in Windsor and we were able to identify a suspect," he says.
The 20-year contract is expected to save the town $570,000 a year.
Hill says the move also gives Amherstburg residents access to more specialized police investigations.
"It certainly gives them enhancements and we have a arson unit, and there was an arson fire in the town of Amherstburg and our arson unit responded to that and assisted with that investigation," he says.
Operationally, Hill says it is business as usual.
