You may not recognize the name but you will.
Sergeant Steve Betteridge has been introduced as the new Public Information Officer or Media Relations Officer at the Windsor Police Service.
As of January 1st, he will be replacing Staff Sergeant Matt D'Asti who has been promoted to another division.
Betteridge became a constable in 1994 and says this is just an extension of what he has been doing.
"When I had my opportunity in community services, that's when I realized there is a tremendous amount of work that police officers do everyday that is not tied directly to enforcing a law," says Sergeant Betteridge. " Recently I had the opportunity to be at the Ontario Police College and the latest stats they presented to us is that out of all the work police officers do, 25% is enforcing a law and 75% is something else."
Betteridge has been in patrol, community services, case management and domestic violence.
At Windsor Police Services Board meeting, Staff Sergeant D'Asti was recognized and presented with a plaque for his time and work.
