According to the SIU, police tracked down a 40yearold man who was the subject of an investigation

Windsor Police Service (WPS) has been cleared by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in an incident from last year.

According to the SIU, police tracked down a 40-year-old man who was the subject of an investigation at a Windsor Home Depot on October 29, 2019.

Windsor police then used their cruisers to box in the man's SUV in the store's parking lot to prevent him from fleeing the scene.

The man put the SUV in motion and maneuvered it back and forth, striking several police vehicles, according to the release.

Officers yelled at him to stop and show his hands and the man was eventually removed from the vehicle and handcuffed.

Special Investigations Unit Director Joseph Martino has determined, "there are no reasonable grounds to believe that any officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man's arrest and injuries."

The SIU is called in to investigate when police officers are involved in incidents where someone has been seriously injured, dies or alleges sexual assault.
