The Windsor Police Service has some muscle behind it force and captured a 104-year-old trophy for a tug of war competition--and with little training.
Windsor police were contacted by the St. Andrew's Society of Detroit a month ago to be a last minute entry to support its annual Highland Games.
10 Windsor officers were picked, with a maximum weight of 2,500 lbs, and Windsor was competing against the five-time champion.
"He gave us an advance warning that we would be competing against the St. Andrew's Tug Of War team, five time reigning champion, so obviously it got our nerves a little bit high," says Constable Albert Frederick. "However we prepared and there was good competition but we ended up prevailing."
Frederick described it as '40 seconds of maximum effort'.
"We met half hour before the event and we watched YouTube videos of some professional tug of war teams across the world, we learned from the best, we just tried to employ those tactics, none of us had ever done this before, but it worked in our favour."
The 169th annual Highland Games took place Saturday, August 4 in Livonia Michigan.
