A man wanted in connection to a murder investigation in Toronto has been arrested as part of an investigation in Windsor.
At approximately 7 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, Windsor police officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 1300 block of Lauzon Road.
During the investigation, officers discovered a loaded restricted firearm and a significant quantity of suspected illegal drugs, including 41.6 grams of fentanyl and 89.2 grams of cocaine.
The estimated value of drugs seized was $11,416.
Two suspects were arrested without incident.
Further investigation revealed that one of the suspects was wanted by the Toronto Police Service.
Windsor police have charged 26-year-old Darriel Thompson and a 24-year-old suspect with possession of a loaded regulated firearm, possession of a firearm knowingly not holding a licence, possession of a prohibited device knowing no authority, careless use, handling, or storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, and three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.
The 24-year-old suspect is also charged with possession of a firearm while prohibited and breach of probation.
As a result of Thompson’s arrest, the Mississauga man has been charged with one count of attempted murder and two counts of second-degree murder. The charges have not been tested in court.
On January 3, 2022, police in Toronto were called to an industrial area where they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. The two men succumbed to their injuries while a woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
