Windsor police and Essex County OPP are getting some funding to launch pilot projects to improve police responses to sexual violence.
The province is investing a total of $1.8-million over two years into fifteen projects.
Windsor police is getting $133,649 for a new online tool to allow complainants to make a report online in their own privacy. If they don't want police involved, counselling will be made available. If the complainants wants to speak to an investigator, they can keep their identity unknown through online communication.
Essex County OPP is receiving more than $108,879 to set up Project BEST which stands for Believe-Empower-Support-Together. The project will set up a committee to advise police on how to improve training and police responses to sexual violence cases leading up to new training. As well, officers will work with local high schools to develop strategies to involve youth.
