A local pizza chef is the best in the country.
Dean Litster, the corporate chef for Armando's Pizza, has been named Chef of the Year in the 'Open' category at this year's Canadian Pizza Summit and Chef of the Year Competitions.
During the competition in Toronto, Litster made a pizza that included pesto sauce, mozzarella cheese, spinach, sauteed mushrooms, red onions, tomatoes and prosciutto.
He says he was shocked to win.
"I was with my sister, she's never seen me compete and when they announced second place she said 'give me your phone, I'm going to take your picture' and I said 'no, I didn't win, don't worry about it' and then they announced my name and I couldn't believe it, it was very shocking," says Litster.
He says most weeks, he works seven days a week between the Windsor and Amherstburg locations.
"You know what, it doesn't really feel like work most days — they pay me to do what I love, so it's pretty easy," he says.
Litster will now compete on the world stage at an upcoming competition in Las Vegas.
