The head of the union representing 80 hourly workers at Northstar Aerospace in Windsor is offering reassurances.
The workers are member of Unifor Local 444.
Dino Chiodo says the situation in Windsor is different than for the 150 employees at the Milton location, which is being closed.
Chiodo says the setup at the plant here is more advantageous both geographically and from the perspective of wages.
He's encouraged that contract talks with the company are going forward: "we've had some discussions with Northstar Aerospace and we've talked about should we go into bargaining early, or do we wait til May. That is the deadline and they are suggesting they would like to put some dates together for us to start talking about it but that hasn't been finalized as of today"
Chiodo says some of the laid off workers from Milton could be offered positions in Windsor, but that's not clear yet.
Chiodo has had preliminary discussions with the company about potential new products for the plant here, but nothing has been finalized.
The Milton plant developed and makes the face gears for Boeing Aerospace.
