The Windsor Mosque is upping its security measures.
Following high profile shootings at places of worship, the most recent in New Zealand on March 14th killing 50 people, the Windsor Mosque on Northwood is hiring security guards to man the building.
Mosque spokesperson Sinan Yasalar says there has been no direct threat, but "rather be safe than sorry."
"Places of worship have become soft targets for these terrorists and it is unfortunate but we have to be realistic, whether it is a mosque, a church, a temple or a synagogue," he says.
He points out other public places, such as schools, have increased their security following shootings.
Yasalar expects the extra security will be in place within the next month or two.
He say the mosque is working with Windsor police to assess security and implement any changes if necessary.
